It is a important that the co-ordinates remain correct in model space as this is a real world hydrographic survey. When I try and rotate it in viewport so that it is aligned to the paper and then go back to model space the co-ordinates have changed. I am trying to rotate a survey in layout view so that it will print at 1:1000 on an A0 piece of paper as the survey is orientated NEW. This is another AutoCAD LT limitation, I believe.AutoCad :: How To Rotate A Survey In Layout View Feb 2, 2012 The raster image will need to be an external reference for it to display properly in the rotated view. One thing to note: if the viewport happens to include a raster image, it will not be displayed correctly if it is an OLE object. If you want to change them back to the normal angle, just use UCS and then the "World" option (this will not affect the view in the paper space viewport). When you go back into model space, you will notice that the crosshairs are now rotated. I added a text note (on a non-plot layer) next to the viewport to remind myself: "UCS Z AXIS ROTATION = -73.609" The view of the building in the viewport should now be rotated. Then, go to Views - 3D Views - Plan View and select "Current UCS". It might look like nothing has changed, but complete the command. Specify a rotation angle about the Z axis (-73.609 degrees in this case). Then start the UCS command and select the Z option. Now, go to the paper space view that will be rotated and double-click inside it so that it is active (the viewport will need to be unlocked). This might vary depending on your drawing UNITS and the desired viewing orientation. I will rotate the view -73.609 degrees to get the desired view.

So, after some trial and error, I determined that 90 degrees minus 16.391 degrees gives a difference of 73.609 degrees. The line that goes straight up/down is the angle I want it to be displayed at. The slanted line on the left is the angle of the short side of the building. I drew two lines and measured the angle between them (16.391 degrees). This makes it easier to fit on the page and looks neater.įirst, I figure out the rotation angle. So I have a building that is drawn at an angle, but I want to rotate it so that the walls are parallel to the edge of the drawing sheet - long side of the building parallel to the long side of the paper and short side of the building parallel to the short side of the paper. This usually works, but sometimes it doesn't work the best, or maybe you would like to try a different method. There is one simple way to do it: just rotate the viewport with the ROTATE command.

There are better ways to do this in AutoCAD (like DVIEW - TWIST), but that is unfortunately not available in AutoCAD LT. I thought that I would write up a tutorial in case anyone else needs to do this. I don't have to do this very often, so I usually forget the specifics of how to do it and have to figure it out again.
